Student Visa for USA
Student Visa offered by USA

The United States of America offers a Student Visa program, known as the F-1 or M-1 Visa, for individuals interested in pursuing education there. This non-immigrant visa requires following essential steps if you plan to obtain a USA Student Visa.

Description and Qualification Requirement for Visa

The F-1 Visa is the most common type of student visa offered by the USA. It enables students to engage in academic activities and study in the United States. With this visa, students can attend colleges, universities, private schools, and approved English Language Programs. Additionally, having an F-1 Visa allows students to study for more than 18 hours per week. This opportunity provided by the USA opens doors for students to pursue their educational goals extensively.

The students, who plan to pursue vocational or non-academic studies, or receive training from U.S. institutions, will need to obtain an M-1 Visa.

Application Requirements

Securing admission to a US Institution: To gain admission to a U.S. educational institution, one must apply and be accepted by a school approved by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Upon acceptance, the school will provide you with either a Form I-20 (for F-1 visas) or Form DS-2019 (for J-1 visas). These forms are essential for visa application purposes.

Paying the SEVIS Fee: Paying the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) fee online is a necessary step. Remember to keep the receipt of this payment as it will be required during your visa interview.

Completing Visa Application: To complete your Visa Application (DS-160), follow these steps:

1. Fill out the DS-160 form online.

2. After filling out the form, make sure to print the confirmation page.

3. You can find the DS-160

Paying Visa Application Fee: To obtain a visa, individuals are required to pay a non-refundable application fee. This payment can be made conveniently through online platforms or designated banks.

Schedule Visa Interview: To schedule a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in India, individuals are required to create an account on the U.S. Visa Information and Appointment Services website (https://www.ustraveldocs.com/in). Make sure to have your DS-160 confirmation page and visa application fee receipt ready when scheduling the interview.

Gather required documents: To apply for a student visa to the USA, it is necessary to gather all the required documents. These typically include: -

  • Passport with at least 6 months of validity
  • Form DS-160 confirmation page.
  • Visa application fee receipt
  • SEVIS fee payment receipt.
  • Form I-20 (for F-1) or Form DS-2019 (for J-1).
  • Admission letter from your U.S. institution
  • The proof required entails demonstrating sufficient financial resources to cover       both your tuition fees and living expenses
  • One 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) Passport-size photograph
  • Any other documents required by the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.
  • If the student's nationality determines whether a visa is issued, there might be an       additional visa issuance reciprocity fee that the student could be required to pay.
  • Presence of an approved original signed Form I-20 from the U.S. Program, School,       or University.

  • Attending Visa Interview: To apply for your visa, you must attend a scheduled interview at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate. During the interview, be prepared to confidently answer questions regarding your intended program of study, your connections to India, and your financial stability.

Waiting for Visa Decision: Once the interview is completed, the consular officer will make a visa decision, determining whether to approve or deny your visa application. If approved, they will place a visa stamp inside your passport

Paying Visa Insurance Fee: If applicable, individuals need to pay the Visa Issuance Fee. Please note that this fee is determined based on reciprocity and varies depending on your country of nationality.

Travel to the U.S.: To travel to the United States, one must have a valid USA student visa. It is important to plan your arrival before the program start date mentioned on your Form I-20 or DS-2019 document.
